The upcoming 2020 U.S. Presidential elections may be the most important election in modern U.S. history. The original plan for This Land was for members of the C2C to travel to the battleground states of Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Wisconsin to conduct interviews with people on the street in order to get as wide a spectrum of political views as possible.

Then the pandemic hit.

Undeterred, we shifted to conducting the interviews via Zoom, Facetime, Google Hangouts, and good old fashioned phone calls. However, we acknowledge that this technological shift also biased our interview reach to those who were in the fortunate positions to have access to the technology that supported remote interviews and were in a positive mental and physical health space to be interviewed in the first place.

The result of our interviews is admittedly skewed to those people who might identify as being middle to upper class as well as white. Though we wish we were able to gather a more diverse spectrum of voices, we do believe that the voices we did interview represent America, though the sample size was smaller than what we had originally intended.

This Land is an exploration of the 2020 Presidential election through our unintendedly biased lens, dramatically affected by a worldwide pandemic told through a new medium of live performance through Zoom. It does not represent every voice in America, but we believe it offers a fair slice of life perspective into the minds of voters from across the country. We hope that you go with us on this journey.

To become a member of the limited Zoom audience, please email: RickyPak@CircleSquaredCollective.org and send us the email address with which you would like to log onto the Zoom performance. Otherwise, please watch our live stream on YouTube and stay tuned to recordings of the performances.
